Floppy will not read disks & Jumper on HD

Here is my system info:

Computer Model Precision 410 M
BIOS Vendor Dell Computer
BIOS Version A12
BIOS Date 12-20-99
Windows Version Microsoft Windows XP Professional

I just installed a Mitsumi 3.5 Floppy. XP Pro recognized the 3.5 floppy but the drive will not recognize any diskettes. I kept getting an error saying telling me to "insert a disk".

As additonal background, I am installing the 3.5 drive to replace the drive that came with the PC which broke. The original drive was installed in the top drive bay of the tower. The original floppy diskette connected to "disk2" on the motherboard. I installed the new drive in a 34 pin connector which is labeled the "diskette". Here is a link to the motherboard which shows you the interfaces and their names:

I checked the BIOS and it is set to automatic and it recognizes the A drive as the 3.5" floppy. One other note, the light on the floppy drive is always on.

Any ideas as to what I have done wrong? Here is a URL to the cable I bought from CompUSA:

Floppy Cable Right cable?

One last question. I have a single non-SCSI drive connected to "IDE1". The cable only has one connection on it so there is no master\slave option. What should I set the jumper on the drive to? Master or CSEL?

I have emailed Dell but I wanted to see what the folks here had to say too. I like Dell but I get a lot of, "Check with the manufacturer replies......." imagine that?

Thanks, Bill

Turn off the computer and unplug the data cable from the floppy. Flip it end-for-end and plug it back into the drive, then fire up the system and see if that corrected the problem.
