My floppy drive seeks about 30 seconds after i logon to windows XP. I have nothing running at startup because i disabled it all with msconfig, what might be causing this problem?

TIA

Check if the FDD cable is connected backward.

Also, change the boot order in the BIOS so that the HD boots first.

This is after logging in though... i havent changed the way it has been connected in forever, and i have my boot order as floppy, cdrom, hdd.... on boot everything is fine, it just seeks for a little bit right after i login, and i was just wondering what may cause that.

Mine does it also, just as the desktop is finished loading. It seeks for about 1-2 seconds. I looked around to try andturn this off but didn't find anything to help me. It's hooked up correctly, and is set to boot first in BIOS. Floppy seek is also disabled in BIOS.

After a couple months of running WinXP, I ran into this same problem. When I login into windows and after the annoying Creative splash screen, but computer seems to stop and seeks for like 20 seconds and when it stops, then all my programs load. It is really annoying. I have the boot order in bios, hdd, fdd, and cd-rom, but I don't see how that matters. I have floppy seek on, but that kind of seek seeks when it boots up not when I login.

Right, it doesnt matter what the bios is setup as... this actually used to have to me in win2k also, and i've never found a fix - the only fix i knew was to disable the floppy drive... that was fine for a while but now i bring my disk every day to school with my papers/labs/other stuff on it.

Speaking of problems... sometimes my icons for certain pictures (.jpg files etc) change to random stuff, like the scanner icon, or the view channells icon... always just something really weird, and it wont go back unless i reboot.
