Floppy Seek on Windows 2000 Login??

I have been using windows 2000 since before it came out and I was always wondering about the floppy seek when windows 2000 is loging in. I built a new computer now and it still does it. It is not the floppy seek stuff in the bios this is the OS. Just bothers me that the computer is probably wasting time making sure there is a floppy drive there for this session. Is there a registry edit or something to stop this? Thanks

If you go to google.com and search for windows 2000 floppy seek on the second page it comes up with this forum in January with 3 responses but I cannot find them even using the link.

have the same problem with winME, got nuts with it, and that's why i got back to win98SE

Here is the link from the second google page floppy seekbut it seems nobody has a answer. I have had this problem on every Win2k box I have built and would like to know how to get rid of it also.

Thanks for the help. I don't think is slows the machine down on boot up it just lights the floppy up when windows 2k is getting started. Probably the same thing that windows 98 and ME do but you can disable that with scan for new floppy drives on boot up. I should find in the windows ME registry where that is and then do the same to the windows 2k registry and see if it goes away!!

i have that same thing on my pc at home, but the ones at college dont do that

Couple of things to check:

A) The obvious - clear the My documents listing in the start menu. Sometimes a system file or some other non-document file can trigger the floppy if it is listed in there. Very annoying.

B) Disable floppy scan at startup in any Antivirus program.
