I have recently bought a new HD for my mothers machine. When I tried reinstalling Windows I ran into a problem. I am still using Win98 on her machine and need the floppy to boot. However, the floppy drive light is on all the time and it does not read any floppy disks that are inserted(same disks are readable on other computers). So far I tried swapping floppy drives, floppy cables, MB's, and power supplies. The problem remained through all those attempts. I made sure that there was a good connection for floppy and power cables going to the drive, and that the cables were inserted in proper orientation. The drive shows up correctly in the BIOS. I have built only 3 machines previously and had never run into a problem like that. I am hoping that some of the more experienced forum members might have had similar experience and might be able to help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

if the light stays on all the time ...check the orientation ..... the ribbion has to be twisted half way ... eg ... the red line on most IDE ribbions are on the left when inserted in the MOBO and has to turned half way to connect to the floppy .... if that is correct ...could be a bad drive ...OH welcome to AT

Sounds like the ribbon cable is plugged into the floppy backwards. Whenever I've plugged it in backwards, it won't read and the light stays on; try reversing it.
