Floppy emergency

My cousin has a paper due tomorrow and he saved it on a floppy, but no program will open it. So I had him scan it on scandisk, but scandisk gives an error about crucial damage. Is there any prog that will let me recover the data? or is he screwed?

Only thing I can think of is the old dos based Norton programs that would let you actually look at the file structure of the disk and see whats on it
