I have a spare floppy that is oem dell that i have on occassion hooked up to my custombuilt system. Now when i try, i cant get the drive to respond. (cant get a boot disk to load, cant get windows install to read a driver disk)

The green light remains solid and never flickers. I have tried reversing the cable to no effect. Is it a bad drive? a bad cable perhaps?

Anything else i can try before i replace these? I have doublechecked that floppy is enabled in bios in both disk category and super io config...

thanks in advance

Could be a bad cable....I was going to say reverse the cable but you've done that already.

I've had it myself too a couple of times... Tried reversing the cable as well... Even swapped PSU's for it...Didn't do jack... Couldn't read or write onto it in Windows... Very weird actually... Now, I only stick (pun intended) with USB flash drives...

Hi, If the activity lite stays on the cable is on backward. The color marker on the cable usually goes toward the power connector, but may vary occasionally. Any disk that was in the drive will be blown and will not boot if if was a boot disk. The drive will not be damaged. Hope this helps, Jim
