Any time i try to write to a floppy, it will tell me that it is write protected, no matter which disk i use. Is this a sure sign of drive failure? I will read but not write.

Thanx

check your disks make sure the little tab is the correct way,

As was stated above, but also check in your bios for a setting called "Floppy R/W Control" or something similar. It may be set to Read, instead of Read/Write.

The data cable is upside down, prolly.

I know it sounds weird, but it's possible for it to be in this condition without frying something, and it causes exactly the symptom you are describing.

But the drive worked about two weeks ago, and i haven't opened the case, so i don't think that would be it, hehe.

Its setting in BIOS. Find floppy there
and chances are 'write protect' is enabled.

BTW is it 810 mobo ?
