Floppy Drive Question: Asus A8N-E

Got my build up and running, the floppy drive I installed is reconginized by the mobo in setup, (asus a8n-e), but I can't get it to read anything. The light that says its reading is always on, but its not reading, and there are no floppy discs in the drive.. Do I have to set a jumper somewhere on it, (its a sony oem drive) it only has 2 connections, power and serial cable. Could it be just a bad drive? I wouldn't normally care, but I want to make a boot disc and update my bios..

I tried unplugging it, and flipping the cable around, but the mobo wouldn't post, so I figure I had it in the right way the first time.. Thats all I can think of..

Thanks!

I plan on getting another tomorrow, to test it out, if I have missed something..

The red strip on the data cable should be on the other side. (You know this by the light is always on, FYI). If the computer will not post, as you said, then I would say it is a bad drive, or maybe check to make sure the BIOS has it setup to be the right kind of FDD (not 2.88, etc). Hope this helps.
Tas.

Yep. Also if you have a case door, leave it open while reading floppies. Sometimes the door will push the little button on the floppy drive so it's "halfway-ejected" (sort of) and not read the floppy.

Hi, Tas is right. The cable is on backward. Most drives have pin one (color stripe) toward the power connector, but there are some exceptions. The drive is not damaged, but any disks that were in the drive were. Jim
