i cannot see my floppy drive when i look under "my computer." i cannot boot from the floppy drive. i've tried a different power cable and i've tried twisting the cable so that the pink line is away from the power connector. when i twisted the cable the led came on permanently, so that makes me think that the power connector is dead. i also made sure that the twist is closest to the drive, so i didn't install it backward or anything. i haven't yet tried a new floppy drive, but i will as soon as i post this. let me know what you guys think.

When you twisted the cable and the LED stayed on that just meant you had the cable in backwards. The "pink line" should be closest to the drive's power connecter. Be sure and check the other end, at the mobo, as well. Are you properly aligned with Pin 1?

You tried another cable. Have you tried another connector from the power supply? Sometimes that makes a difference.

Other questions:

1. Did your system ever see the floppy? If yes, then what has changed?

2. Is your bios properly configured? Do you have drive A set as a 3.5-inch, 1.44MB floppy? Is the floppy drive controller enabled?

did you check your bios settings? And when you get your new cable, try not to twist it so much. Just connect it and do not force it in. Remember to put the little notch at the top, not at the bottom.

i tried a new floppy drive, a new floppy cable, and a different power cable from the ps.

the drive functioned yesterday.

i did mess around in the bios today, so i'll poke around in there and see if i screwed anything up.

Dan, is the "floppy drive controller" setting in the bios or is that in windows?

thanks for the swift help.

update: it was in the bios. at one point i set it to the failsafe defaults and that must have changed the "drive a" setting to none. duh. thanks again for the help.
