for some reason i'm getting error number '40' during bootup.
it won't recognize my floppy drive.
from what i understand the floppy drive cables are crisscrossed, and the red line onthe cable faces toward the power connector and that the yellow color of power cable faces away from the red color (backwards than other IDE devices)
it is not recognziing my floppy drive.
floppy drive works last time i checked, pls help

so it worked b4 and now all of a sudden it doesn't work? or did you change cases or move it or something?

not only should you try flipping the cable on the floppy end, but also try flipping the cable where it connects to the mobo header. that means you can have 4 possible variations of connector direction. one of those is bound to work. btw.. i assume you're connecting the end of the floppy cable that has a cross in it to the floppy right?

The power connector should only easily slide on one way ( with the cut-out side towards the circuit board). The interface cable could go either way depending on the make of the drive ( if it is on wrong you usually see the drives access light always lit)

i had disabled the floppy disk drive as u know, i didn't even use it.
now i forgot what i changed in the bios to disable the floppy, but for some reason i believe it has been 'enabled now'
no light on the drive yet.
gonna try various combinations now i guess.

*********
still no go.
only 2 combos. tried both
what now?
