Floppy Drive not working..

i installed a floppy drive in my computer and connected the ide cable from it to the mobo, and plugged the 4 pin power cable into it. The computer detects that i have the floppy drive, but when i put a disk in nothings happens, no blinking lights or sounds, and it tells me to insert a disk. Somehow the drive is not getting power. What could be wrong? Is it a faulty drive? Thanks

Just to make sure here, you're using a floppy drive cable and not a wider IDE cable, right?

You might have put the cable in upside down on the floppy end.
 
Check to ensure that the cable is plugged in the correct way on both the motherboard as well as the floppy drive itself.

The floppy drive power connectors sometimes don't fit. Make sure all 4 are plugged in and that you didn't only plug in three or something.

As you can see in this picture... Ensure that the red line on the floppy cable is facing the power connector...
 
Hmmm, the onyl reason i need this stupid thing is to update my DFI NF4 bios to take advantage of dual core. There is no other way to do it right?
 
Thanks for the warm welcome, this seems like an awesome forum. I'm sure the thing is hooked up correctly becuase each cable has only one way it can go in. I just deleted the driver and rebooted. It reinstalled the driver, but it still does not work. I am beginning to think the drive is just bad.
 
Hi, Cable plugged in wrong will cause the activity light on the floppy to stay on all the time. No damage to the drive, but any disk that was in it while it was plugged wrong will not boot again until reformated /S. Floppy is not IDE. The cable is Cable Select. Floppy A: must be plugged to the end with the twisted wires. With some older PCs the BIOS must be set up to enable the Floppy A: and/or B:. Hope this helps a little, Jim
