Floppy drive not wanting to work ?

Hey, I just installed my floppy drive from my old comp to my new one. One problem, it doesn't work.

It works fine in old comp, so I know it's not the floppy.

Power light lights up, so it's not that.

However when I put a disc in it doesn't recognize it. It's not the disc cause it happens with every disc...it just says put drive disc in drive a.

Motherboard is Chaintech VNF4.

Is the power light always lit, or does it only light up when a floppy is in?

Is floppy support enabled in your BIOS?

It lights up at boot and then doesn't light up anymore.

I don't see a specific option for enabling floppy support in bios :/

What motherboard are you using?

Go into "Standard CMOS Features" and make sure your floppy is enabled.

I agree, their manual sucks (at least what I could download from them).

Ok, I dunno if this is the problem but make sure the ribbon cable is plugged in right. The split end goes in the drive, while the nonsplit end goes into the motherboard.

Checked that already and it's plugged in right.

I have a feeling this is something to do with windows because ir lights up in BIOS and seems to be recognized in BIOS.

Have you tried booting from a floppy yet? Make a Memtest86 boot floppy and see if you can run that.
