it depends, does your copy of windows have SP2 in it, or do you have to install it later?

IF your windows has the SATA drivers already installed you're good to go. There are ways around using a floppy too, like downloading the drivers onto a CD-ROM, I'd just install SP2 as recommended above.

I just noticed with that HDD, its a combo deal where you get a free $10 floppy drive, so if I do need one, I'll have it. :D

actually it depends on your motherboard, some mobos work well with some OS and you do not need a floppy disk to get it started.

my Intel chipset mobo doesn't require a floppy drive when I installed my SATA drive onto it whereas my VIA chipset did.

floppy drives don't really future proof your system, they just ensure univeral work arounds when you have no other options left

personally I would not finish the build of a rig without a floppy drive

the problem is that when you are installing windows without SP2, it doesnt have sata drivers on it, so it wont recongnize your drive to install. you need to install them before installation. however, windows does not give the option of using a cd drive. it just says "insert drivers into drive A: and press enter" which is really annoying, anyway, its always nice to have a floppy drive just in case.
