Floppy Drive Making Weird Noise And Not Working

Ok I pulled the power (for the floppy) out by accident while the computer was on and the whole pc shut off. So now whenever I plug the floppy's power in it just makes a loud screeching noise kind of like when a wire hits a fan, but on and off quickly. It doesn't stop and the PC goes to boot like I had no OS installed yet. I boot fine wo/ the floppy drive powered.

I will try to reset the BIOS and report back as I realize this could very well be the problem. But if not then I need some help guys. Thanks.

Nope the bios/cmos was NOT the problem.

Thanks in advance!

You should not connect an internal drive without it being powered. Disconnect both the power and the data cable for a drive if you want to remove it.

Edit: I meant when you tried disconnecting the power to the drive to try booting your computer.

I don't think you understand my problem. When the power to the floppy is not in I can boot up just fine. My pc is completely fine. Just the floppy doesn't work when I power it. The data has constantly been plugged in.

BadThad: I feared that might be it, is there any way to confirm this.

Yes, I understand your problem. The floppy sounds busted, just buy a new one. Make sure the cable isn't in backwards. My recommendation is that you do not leave the floppy drive or any drive in your computer with its data cable connected and its power cable disconnected, you can damage your motherboard or drive doing this.
