Floppy drive making strange noise.

I know floppy drives are not very important any more, but it just bugs me that it is doing this. I have changed the drive and the cable with no change. When the drive is enabled in the bios it makes a buzzing noise when not in use. For instance when I am surfing the net it will buzz when I am going from one screen to another. sometimes for longer times than others. I have been leaving it not enabled in the bios just so I don't have to listen to it. Can anyone give me any idea why this drive is making noise when it is not being asked to do anything.

Thanks

Is the light on?

If you have the cable in backwards, sometimes it will constantly "seek" and never be recognized. Then again, you typically will not post anyway so I doubt that's your problem.

My guess is you have a windows setting along the lines of checking drives for media.

See if you have other cables to try.

Disable floppy seek in the bios and if the problem persists, just disconnect the thing and if you decide to change it next time get a USB version. You might want to check for an updated bios for your mobo also.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have already tried most of what you have suggested. I have trie other drives and other cables. I have set the bios to seek and not seek. Most of the time I have the drive not enabled in the bios so it is inoperative all the time. The cable is in correctly because I can still use the drive when it is enabled in the bios. I just want it to stop making the buzzing noise.

I am running WinXP corp. where in there would I check to see if settings for drives seeking media?

Thanks

The only thing I can think off that checks the floppy even when you are not using it is an anti-virus software.
