Greetings AT Tech Gurus -

I have a bit of an issue with a floppy drive I just put in a system for my girlfriend. Of course, before giving it to her I checked everything but the most simple thing. :p I haven't gotten to look at the computer with my own eyes since she reported this problem, but...

She says the drive (A: ) shows up under My Computer but whether a disk is in or not, the drive will ask the user to insert a disk. To me, this just sounds like a loose IDE cable or something simple. The part that throws me a bit is that she says the floppy drive LED is constantly on. Why would this happen? Is this a specific problem? Does it signal a bad drive, improperly connected cable or some specific problem?

I'd just like to gather some knowledge before I go make the trek to her school and straighten it out.

Thanks for your time, any help you can provide is greatly appreciated,

CK

<< floppy cable is in backwards >>

Wow, I'm really glad the solution is that simple :) Although, it's sad that I did something so retarded... I guess I'll allow myself this mistake :p

So this is the only possibility? That will be a quick fix.

Thanks for your time and information,

CK

The floppy led staying on is a sure sign of backwards cable. They don't seem to be standard like hard drives (red line to power supply)
