floppy drive isn't working

I just recently built a new computer and i noticed that my floppy drive isn't working. My computer says that it is working properly but the light just stays on all the time and when i stick in a floppy it wont read it and my xp keeps saying there is no disk. if anyone knows what the problem might be please help thx

Flip cable over, ensure it is plugged in all the way, and leave the computer somewhat apart in case you need to readjust something after starting it up.

this happened to me too intermittently the first time i built the system and installed XP, only with certain floppies [which worked fine on other pcs]
after a while it suddenly decided to work normally - i didnt change anything
