floppy Drive Burnt?

I think my floppy drive drive is burnt,,,, i took it off of device manager and booted up again to let windows ( 98se ) to recognize it but still no go,,,,,i also have another question,can i unhook it?,,,i mean run pc with out it wired up with the flat grey wires hooked up?

My specs are coming as soon as i find a mobo that will run stable and over clock my Athlon T-Bird 1.33 thx
 
Sure you can run your system without it connected. You can also get a new drive at any computer store for almost nothing.
