floppy doesn't recognise disk and light stays on

my floppy drive is recognised and shows up ok in My Computer, but it always tells me there's no disk in there when I put one in. what's up with that?
the green light stays on contantly. hmmm.

I don't remember unplugging it or touching it at all and it used to work fine, so what's up?
 
If this computer was rebuilt recently, check that the floppy cable wasn't inserted upside down.
