Floppy disk failure

When i boot i get a message saying Floppy disk failure ( 40 )
but in Device Manager it says it is fine. When i put in a floppy i get box saying put in floppy
 
Check your connections at both ends. (At the drive and at the motherboard in the case of the ribbon cable.) Does the fdd light come on at all? If not, it's very possible the power connection isn't secure. Does the fdd light stay on all the time? If so you probaby have the cable attached incorrectly. Remember the pin 1 side of the cable is usually closest to the power connection.
 
You might just have a bad floppy. They're pretty cheap to replace. (Assuming you've checked all the connections and bios settings)
