Floorstanding speakers in a dorm room? Too much for such a small room?

What do you think? It'll either be floorstanding or bookshelf+stands. The dorm room measures somewhere around a 12 foot square box. Just in general terms, would floorstanding speakers be too much for a dorm room? Would they generally require more space to sound their best?

It'll be great, but if its a single, it'll take up too much room. That, and you'll have dorm-mates beating down your ass. :D

I have a pair of slim Infinity speakers...I also don't have a roommate, though.

My roommate will be my friend, so it should be alright. I was hoping for 5.1 channel sound too, but i don't know how i'd mount the 2 rear speakers :(

Heyy, this will be my first large speaker purchase. I've been spending most of my money on headphone gear so far, so nyah! :p

I had 2 Axiom Audio M50's (floor standing), VP100 and 2 M3's and a Pinnacle Digital Sub 350 in a 7x7 small room in my dorm room. Was awesome loud :)

lol...i was messing with you...actually for such a small room, check out some speakers that are dipole/bipole...that will allow you to customize them to your room better....some really good smaller speakers can actually sound better than large crappy ones

I just use my cheesy labtec speakers and I'm perfectly happy. You don't nee much sound for a dorm, but whatever floats your boat.
