My wife and I just purchased our first home and we need to pick out some office furniture for our office. We have decided on 2 different desks for the office from office max as shown here:

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l36/skyynet/Desk1.gif

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l36/skyynet/Desk2.gif

We're not really sure which one will fit the office the best so I drew up this crude floor plan using MS paint. If anyone out there can fix it with some type of floor planning software it would be appreciated. Its not drawn to scale so that is what I would need to be done. After that is done then I can give the measurements of the desk and see which one would be a better fit.

Please help! I need to get this desk ASAP because I am sitting on the floor and my back is starting to kill me.

Here is the floor plan:

Make sure your desk is situated such that your wife can't glance over your shoulder and see your porn.

You just moved, right? Cut up a few cardboard boxes, the size of the desks. Put the boxes in the room. Do you feel cramped, or is there a lot of excess wasted space? Your question is answered.

Note: you could do the same thing with painting tape, or books, or any other objects to outline the desk shape.

You could have helped everyone by Linking the desks with dimensions. Your desk #1 is ~70" on each leg. That means you'll have 58" from one end to your bottom wall. How wide is your futon when you lay it down? Will it fit in that 58" space?

And you can draw this to scale in MS Paint if you wish. Paint has this nice pixel counter at the bottom corner. Draw things using say 5 pixels=1 inch. Bingo, in a few minutes you did your work to scale. Also, a nice home design software is what, $5 in the clearance isle. That'll do all the layout for you.

... You might want add the measurements of the desks, because it's bad enough we're doing this work for you, but I'm sure as hell not tracking down the desk models to add them in.

Pink is the area that you should leave open for a futon. If you don't want to spare that area or don't plan on laying it out, get a loveseat instead. It'll be 10000x more comfortable and use less space.

Next time, it'll be much easier for you to just get some graph paper. 1 square = 3 inches and you got a small sized room on one page, or tape a couple of pages together and do 1 square = 1inch. No software required, and you can easily take it to the stores when looking at furniture. If you bring a couple spare sheets, you can draw out the furniture you like on a seperate sheet, and just lay it on top, rather than needing to erase over and over.

Kind of personal preference, really. Why don't you just get a tape measurer and tape it out.

Both desks suck because they encourage you to put your tower in a little enclosed box. Don't use that, stick it on the floor.

Just get desk #2.

Desk #1 sucks. Look at the location of the monitor and keyboard tray. You don't want the monitor where they are showing because you'll bang your knees on the desk.

The keyboard's on the left and the monitor's in the middle, lol. Wow what kind of people put these sets together.

But desk #2 looks like it doesn't give you enough room to get comfortable.

This is what I have:
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/store...oductId=46031&cmArea=SC2:CG33:CL161508

It's a bit bigger than what I wanted, but I have enough room for ALL of my stuff on my desk (laser printer, shuttle SFF, mac mini, laptop and 2005FPW)

Well, I was hoping that someone could do the floor plan only and then I could add in the dimensions of the furniture. I didnt want someone to do that as well. I have the dimensions of the furniture scribbled on a piece of paper and was going to scan them and upload it if anyone was interested. Just by going to the website and taking the dimensions wont work because the desk is a wierd shape.

And yes, the other desk is wierd cause the tray is on the side and they place the monitor in the middle. I went to the store and tried to see what it would be like if I just kept the KB in the middle and it was ok....i didnt hit my leg in the middle part. I figured I could store my mouse and KB in the tray when it wasnt in use. Also if I kept the monitor on the side where the tray was...theres only 20" of usuable room on the part as opposed to 28" in the middle.

With desk #2 I will be getting a cabinet as well where I can put my printer, etc on it.

Whats inaccurate? Its drawn to scale using the dimensions you provided.

In your provided schematic, you have the futon measured as both 101" and 83".

The measurements you provided are not the same on the left and right side. One side measures at 128" the other side measures at 118".

So if you cant figure out what I drew up, I guess its a case of crap in, crap out.

the futon actually measures 83" while the wall that it is along is 114" total....sorry it was so confusing...it does look a little off so ill take a look when i get home.
