I know WD has one of its biggest mfg sites there in Thailand.
So I should go out and grab my two 3TB hdd before prices going up, lol.

Some excerpt:

Western Digital has suspended its operations in Thailand. Floodwaters have affected two factories, which shut down last week. The company said its other hard drive manufacturing facilities, located in Malaysia, are fully operational. But it said flooding will have a significant impact on its ability to meet demand through the end of the year. Western Digital's Thailand operations account for more than half of the company's total hard drive output. Western Digital's stock has fallen 15 percent since the company announced its delays last week.

Seagate says that its factories in Thailand are operational but warned that it is having difficulty getting some components. It said supply will be constrained the rest of the year, though the magnitude of the disruption is currently unclear.

Toshiba has also suspended its Thailand hard disk operations, as have a number of hard disk component suppliers.

Big computer makers are worried.

HOLD ON TO YOUR DRIVES!!!!!

Micro Center is now having a 1 driver per customer effectively immediately (just got the work email).

Prices already seem to have jumped considerably. Checking Newegg and NCIX, my usual haunts, prices on "green" drives from all manufacturers have jumped from $70-80 to $100-120 for 2TB models.

I'm happy I just picked up two EARS 2TB a couple weeks ago for $70 apiece. 🙂

This will be much worse before it gets better. There's only about 3-4 weeks of finished stock, between distributors (me) and what's en route via ocean freight. Major shortages and high prices are expected to extend until as late as March 2012. While the mfg of drives is affecting WD the most, Many HDD component companies that Seagate, Etc rely on are devastated too. Like Nidec. No motors = no drives. Estimates from WD and Seagate say they will miss forecasts by ~100 MILLION units. 😱

< Works for the disty where Newegg gets their WD

pfffft! they'll want to cash in on this just as much as anybody. regardless if they had a flooded factory or not 🙂

There have been zero price increases on any PC component aside from regular hard drives. I talked to Kingston, they don't see any price incereases on any flavor of memory.

It's funny I started this post two days ago and not even one reply until now...LOL
I'm glad I picked up two 3tb drives for $119 each at MC (a WD Green). I just went back and check its site, guess what, none listed and prices of 3tb have gone skyrocketed.

i'm glad i bought a 3TB drive on ebay for like $100 a few weeks back. the guy who was seling them is out of stock now. but theres still a few listings there for cheap for 2 and 3TB drives.

sadly i sold a 2TB drive for $70 recently but there seem to be a decent amount of $70ish drives on ebay for 2TB so maybe its just a 3TB thing

"Due to Supply Shortages, Two Per Customer" sign I just saw over the MC store today.
The shelves are pretty empty as well.
WTH?
Artificial or real shortage?

As real as it can be without anyone actually having any product. People are loading up expecting the very real massive shortages that are coming. That CRN article sums it up good.
