Just stopped by the folks house today and the Ole' Compaq is at it again!

My mother is editing a very important book soon to be released for my Gramps and the problem she's
getting is when she moves the cursor over the desktop, the icons just sort of fly around and rearrange
themselves until you stop moving the mouse which are then stationary and misarranged! :(
Of course this makes it impossible to access anything from the desktop.

I sincerely apologize. I know I should go to the TA forum for this but I need quick help and this is where most seem to
be stompin' this time o' night so please...any advice?

I did try a system restore using the disk that came with the 'puter and it does not seem to be a registry or
settings problem.

It's definitely a virus, do a (Google) search for "icons moving around" or something like that.

Whoops!

I meant TS as in "technical support", not "assistance"!

Not a bad idea though!:D

<< My dad downloaded that. I was laughing too hard to fix it >>

Yeah, it kinda reminded me of Whack-a-Mole except the bastards
are moving around...and much too quickly to hit! :)

Oh Well,

The verdict is in!!!

There is a nasty little bug named "W32.Magistr.24876@mm" that causes these
symptoms and supposedly there is a fix in Norton or McCaffee that might work I hope.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though!:)

Yeah just fixed my couzins winme laptop with that on it...what happend was i ran norton, and it fixed some files then windows wouldnt start! error with explorer.exe!!
so then i just installed win2k on top then i ran norton 2002 and it fixed up stuff. then i just deleted the winme directory. that way all data was left intact...well basicly this virus only effects stuff in teh windows folder, well atleast from my experiacne.
