This is my first flipchip installation and I chose to go with a copper orb from cpusforless.com. Is there anything I need to know before I try to mount the orb.

Like, do I need spacers? Is this orb prone to break the heatsink attachment flanges on the socket. etc.

Normally I would not bother consulting, but I've been reading about all kinds of trouble with orbs and durons and socket flanges breaking. Flipchips are probably ok, But I want to be sure.

Thanks for reading.

Hymy,

If this is the same 'Copper Orb' reviewed by HARDOCP it's a fake. That is, its not made by Thermaltake and the performance was poor.

This ones made by power cooler, I just grabbed it cuz it was neat and I know cpusforless.com is good to deal with. It won't be used for overclocking anyway. Thanks for taking the time to share, I'm not terribly upset by this, but If you have any advice about installing I would greatly appreciate it.

Hymy,

Just make sure that the hsf is made for Socket 370 not Socket 462 (AKA Socket A). Socket 462 hsfs have clips that produce much higher pressure on the core. P3s/C2 don't need the high clip pressure.
