Extremely demanding. You're really gonna need a Core 2 system with an 8800GTX/S to pull high settings.

My 7900GT with 3.8GHz E6600 + 2GB TeamGroup DDR2 does alright at 1680x1050.

I'm waiting for the DirectX 10 update for FSX to ship to upgrade my video card.

My 7900GTX performs @ slide-show frame rate @ 1920x1200 :(
The game is definitely was developed for dx-10 cards.

Even with top of the line hardware, it's near impossible to get solid frames at max settings.

Flightsim is always abotu 2 generations ahead of hardware. I say in late 2008 you will have hardware that can run it close to maxed with good frame rates.

Nature of the beast. I have a 8800 GTS + Conroe 6600. It does ok, but I am no where near the max settings either.

Rig in Sig.
Settings on Medium High, In game AA/AF (or 4xAA/8xAF, or something along those lines) @ 1680x1050

Performs alright. Not great but you really don't need great for a flight sim.
It's not a slideshow. But it sometimes gets close.

Heck even the commercials for it on TV had uber Choppiness in it.

I think the problem is CPU performance, as ive done my best to test it, with my 3500+ it ran like a dog, especially with scenes of generated traffic and scenery density up high.

But when i have my Core 2 Duo, it ran much better and then ran even better when i overclocked it to 3.2ghz on a E6400. And it was all the same GPU throughout at the same settings.

This to me is a REALLY bad sign. I'm sure they want people to walk away with the desire to buy the game and not be turned off by poor performance. I'll wait till Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 before I buy again ;)

as to performance..it all depends on how soon they get the "dx10 patch" out after vista.

Theoretically, you could be in heaven by the spring with a nvidia 8800 gts and vista :)
