Flight Sim for win 7 pro 64

Does anyone know of a good flight sim that works with win 7 pro 64? I've been wantign to buy Flight Sim X-Gold by Microsoft but not sure if it will work. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

FSX works fine on Win7Pro64. I use Dx9 mode, but thats mainly because many aftermarket aircraft have graphic anomalies in Dx10 Preview. IMO DX10 doesn't really add much anyway.

man, I remember doing cool ass stuff with that game. Going three monitors wide, or even splitting the workload between two computers to run on multiple monitors. My buddy and I would fly for hours, lol.

Dx10 only adds some extra lighting effects. Nothing like we were promised. On top of that, FSX still runs like molasses on my current rig. Personally, I'd pick up FS2004 (aka FS9) if you can put up with slightly date graphics. Was a better game IMO.

How is the selection of aircrafts in FSX?

Pretty good, not as good as FS2004 mind you. It has most of the same aircraft types that FS2002 did. They took most of the vintage stuff out in favour of more varieties of jetliners. The Airbus A320 and Bombardier CRJ700 are new. Robinson R-22, DC-3, and the Cub stayed from 2004. Also new is the Maule Orion, Air Creation Trike Ultralight, de Havilland Canada Beaver, DG-808 Sailplane, and Grumman Goose.

I think the largest difference between FS9 and FSX come with the cockpits. If you still prefer 2d panels, the FS9 is fine. If you've made or are willing to make the jump to using 3d cockpits full time, then FSX offers a much better experience. Otherwise the games are very similar other than the fps sucking graphics engine in FSX. The latest FSX payware planes are also extremely well done for the most part.

If your willing to buy some payware scenery and terrain packs for FS9, you can get it very close to FSX in overall graphics quality, without the pain.

Even a lot of the freeware is surprisingly well done. The problem I find with the 3D cockpits is it taxes your system. Even three years later, it's hard to get it to run at a stable 30fps in some areas.

Also, if you're getting into flight sims, give X-Plane 9 a whirl.

I never got the hang of it, as it does things a lot differently than MS Flight Simulator X, but there's a pretty large community for it as well. It's not nearly as user friendly as MS Flight Simulator, but that can be good or bad depending how you look at it.

X-plane is more of a core level flight simulator, in that it excels at airfoil simulation. What it lacks is everything else. Although it can brag about its global topographic coverage, the airplane cockpits suck in general and there is virtually no scenery included in the box other than autogen (which in my opinion is superior to FSX Vanilla) not to mention being complete anemic of ATC and flight planning. Comparing FSX to X-plane is like comparing Windows to Linux. X-plane ultimately has more potential but a lack of serious community support as well as a less than adequate out-of-the-box experience ultimately keeps people coming back to MSFS.

But Microsoft shutdown ACES Studio, so their flight sim is a dead end. So unless someone else comes along, the future is X-Plane.

Actually members from the MSFS team have announced they are starting their own studio and building a new simulator from scratch. Considering the combined knowledge they share, we might see some amazing stuff come from there.

Even if another simulator didn't pop up, FSX will only become more accepted as time passes and computers can run it better and better. Many people can't even play FSX at max levels yet, so it will age gracefully. Also it has heavy aftermarket support, which will continue to add features. There is money to be made in creating third party products for FSX for at least 3 more years and X-plane will never become truly mainstream unless they can capture that market. In its current state it simply can't compete. In the future that might change, but for now X-plane can't even compete with a game from a dead studio. Hell, X-plane as of today can't even compete with FS9, and that one is 6 years old.

I don't mean to hijack this but are there any free demos out there? I keep thinking of grabbing one but now that I'm searching a bit, I don't see much. And of what I see, I don't know what to go with. Any recommendations? Oh, I just noticed there is a demo for this game.. doh.
