Flickering, losing sound.

Here is my setup:

Benq w1070 projector
Windows 8 PC upper mid range hardware that never gave me a problem before I moved it.
New powered sectional from Rooms to Go, very nice but included for a reason.

OK, ever since I hooked up my PC in my living room (via HDMI straight through the projector) the video flickers pretty often and I lose sound regularly. For some reason this seems to happen most often when someone is getting off the sectional, and sometimes I will even lose video.

Obviously, I am looking for some potentially easy solution before I start re-wiring everything but most of it is plugged into the same Monster power strip and the same socket. I will add that I do also have a Denon AVR 3803 sitting in my tower as well, could this be a magnetic shielding issue?

Thanks for the help guys!

... could this be a magnetic shielding issue?...

That was my first thought.

So have you rewired the whole thing yet? lol

I guess if you can run other devices on the projector without the issues, that should pretty well narrow down the cause. Maybe the HDMI cable?

Any cables contacting the sectional, or do you think it's just a vibration issue?

Probably I would suspect first the HDMI cable. I've had similar issues with some sub standard HDMI cables that caused flickering outputs and intermittent video loss.

Not yet lol

Sounds like the cable might be the problem so I will give that a try and report back, thanks to both of you for the help.

I tend to agree with them as well. Try the HDMI cable first.

Now a couple of quick questions: Do you have a video card installed or are you using onboard video?

Did you have a monitor connected via HDMI before moving the system?

If you didn't have it connected via HDMI before, think about changing or installing a video card. Maybe out of a different system or possibly borrowing one to try a different card. Just thinking along the lines of a possible bad HDMI port on the video output.

Of course that is if the new HDMI cable doesn't solve the issue.

Yeah I had it hooked up to a 42" LG plasma before I brought it in here. I did just find this folder with these files that my adware prog cannot delete for some reason:

.android (folder)

adbkey
adbkey.pub (files)

I did a quick search and it says this is a Trojan, any help on removing this would be appreciated. My Kaspersky does not see it and my adware program sees it but cannot remove it.

I'm not sure if this is related but it certainly does not help the situation, either way. Should I direct my inquiry to the Security forum or the KAV forums?

Well, I got my PC to boot from that but it keeps saying my OS isn't shutting down properly which prevents the rescue disk from doing anything basically. I've submitted for help over at KAV forums, so that should get it resolved. After I get the computer cleaned up I will probably just try rebuilding my entertainment tower one piece at a time to see if I can pinpoint the source of the problem...that is, of course, if the Trojan isn't the source of the issues to begin with.

Crazy stuff. Either way, always nice to say bye bye to a virus.

Well, after much looking, downloading, and scanning it looks like it isn't any type of malware. I did discover my Windows has been regularly running defrag on my SSD. This is my first SSD, so I can't say for sure, but I think I remember reading that was a bad thing. I'm wondering if a new drive might be in order soon.

This is correct. You do not want to defragment an SSD. It has it's own method of optimization. defragmenting will only shorten its life.

Back to the original issue...As everyone else has said, replace your hdmi cable. Those are always the first line of defense in diagnosing an HDMI issue.
As for your adb problem, it's not a problem. If you have ever installed phone programs such as My HTC that control your phone, that's your answer. Adb is the program used to control your phone.

I replaced the HDMI cable and it seemed to make no difference at all. That said, my wife was helping me test out all the connections and noticed one of my pieces of equipment was not fully plugged into my power strip. After pushing the plug the rest of the way in I can happily report that my problems seem to be solved. She has a habit of doing that ^_^
