Flatmate sleeping in living room [ANNOYING]

This is starting to really piss me off. My flatmate has started sleeping in the living room on the couch under the heat pump because he thinks his own bedroom is too cold at night. He started doing it a few weeks ago and after about a week I spoke to him about it and he stopped. I just got back from a trip to see my family for 10 days and while I was gone he started sleeping on the couch on a regular basis.

Not only is it a total invasion of shared living space, but he keeps the fucking heat pump running all fucking night. Our power bill has shot up to $400/month (typical house this size should be $200-$250) because of his fucking heat pump habits. And during the day he never seems to go to class anymore, he just sits in front of the TV 14 hours a day with the FUCKING heat pump running (it's going nearly 24/7). All because he can't handle the fucking cold. Pussy-ass Canadian.

So how do you guys suggest I broach the topic with him? And before I get a bunch of keyboard commandos criticizing me for complaining instead of taking action, like I said I've already spoken to him about it and I obviously intend to again tomorrow morning. I just wanted to rant and ask for suggestions about how I can make sure there is no doubt left in his stupid Canadian head about this topic - no sleeping in shared space. It's bullshit.

Oh and it's not just the power bill that bothers me. It's also just plain fucking annoying that he's constantly asleep on the couch. I'm a night owl, but his selfish behaviour precludes me from watching TV at night (not that I ever would, but sometimes I'd like to use the couch) and he's always asleep in the morning when the girls wake up and get their breakfast, so they can't watch the morning news or whatever. Just plain selfish.

/RANT

Cliff's notes:
Flatmate has started sleeping on the couch in the living room instead of using his bedroom because he's a pussy Canadian who can't handle a relatively mild winter.

So is it just you two on the lease? Or are the girls as well (or are they your girlfriends)? If you all are, then you should all approach him together and tell him to at the very least get a space heater. If it's just you, then fisticuffs are in order. Or just mention it to him again. It sounds like he took advantage of you being gone, so just remind him to gtfo off the couch :p

For one I wouldn't let him sleeping preclude anyone from watching TV. F him.

I don't have any suggestions on how to change his behavior.

How cold does it get at night?
Not that cold, -4C on a bad night, maybe 0C on average. His room is more drafty than the rest of the house but we have offered him a space heater, electric blanket and even offered to put up plastic sheets to block the draft. He's not interested in solutions.

4 of us, 2 girls plus me and the Canadian.
You should all approach the Canadian then, as a group, and tell him no more spending the night asleep on the couch. I agree with you, I'd hate a roomie to use the couch as his/her bed for the reasons you've stated. He's taking advantage of the fact you are all letting him continue to be a slug.

Say this ^.

And tell him to buy a fucking blanket or space heater if he can't handle it.

Wow, that's strange. I find it easier to sleep when it's cold outside: just heat the house to about 10C and use a couple of blankets. Much more comfortable than trying to deal with 100F+.

A circular saw, plastic sheeting and black plastic bags.

I like the "stupid Canadian head" and "Pussy-ass Canadian" comments. That always gets a positive reaction when you're trying to reason with someone.

I think he's fucking with you because you're an asshole. You know that old saying, what goes around comes around?

Turn the tv on loud whenever you want to watch it. After all, it's shared space...
