I'm planning on picking up an MR2 from NH, and the seller is going to tow it down to NC for pickup -- he said to check UHaul for trailer rates, but the only trailer that's even close is a 5' x 9' ramp trailer..sounds a bit small to me -- and it's over $400 for one-way!

Is there anywhere else we could rent a trailer for one-way NH to NC (or 2-way for 4-5 days)? I have a hard time paying 50% over the cost of the car just for a trailer..I'd just as soon fly up and drive the freakin' thing all the way to FL myself..

No offense but most people work these details out in advance of making the purchase.
And U-Haul will hassle you about what you want to use to pull their trailer.

if the car is drivable, get a friend to drive you up there, pay him all expenses + a bit

You want a car dolly, 2 wheels go on that, the other 2 stay on the road.

I have a friend willing to drive me to NC, but FL to NH is much longer...I can't do that until the spring semester is over. If I was going to do that, I'd just as soon fly up and drive back.

Advisements for the vehicle being towed:
Because it is not possible to disengage the rear transaxle on your vehicle you are not permitted to use U-Haul's rental tow bar and/or tow dolly.
Then my only option:
Tow dolly
Tows vehicle with front wheels off the ground
Hah..UHaul sucks. :p

I put Class 2 for the trailer hitch..(just picked one)..maybe that's why I didn't see that.

Thanks for the help/link -- but it's well over $400 for one-way, and I have to talk to a local UHaul place for multiple-day same-location pickup/drop-off quotes. :(

I might have to wait for the spring semester to end, so I can fly up and drive it down..

I'm not sure if I understand your post. Wouldn't it just be quicker to fly up and drive it down? Or are you talking about having UHaul pick up and deliver the car to you (Does Uhaul even do that?) ?

The car is in NH, I'm in FL. The seller is going to NC anyways -- so he was going to tow it down to NC, so I'd have less of a drive to pick it up. I could fly up, but it's a solid two day drive back down...heck, I guess I could still do that between my classes (Tuesday/Thursday)..I could fly up on Friday, get back on Monday..assuming nothing breaks. :p

I'm only paying $1000 for the car, so I hate to spend $500 to get it here..but I guess I should check freight prices..might be cheaper/easier.

Off to check airline ticket prices...
