Haven't had to deal with a flat tire for a while.

So, it looks like a sidewall puncture. don't think I can just replace the inner tube for this one.

Stopped by walmart and the guy quotes me 72.50 for replacement. I'll also have to rotate the tires, also, right? I think it's like 8 bucks per tire, so that's another 32 on top of the 72.50.

Any other places better than walmart?

Typically, there are a lot of better places than Walmart.

But, you didn't mention whether you have the original tires, replacements, what type of driving you do, where you do it, how many miles are on the rest of the tires, etc...

Simply put, there isn't a need to rotate the tires simply because you are putting one new one on. The $72.50 might not be the 'out the door' price. But, it sounds pretty inexpensive, so if you just want a tire, you wouldn't be too bad off spending that for one. Some States charge a disposal fee. The tire will need to be balanced after it is mounted on the rim.

Disclaimer: Without knowing more information, I'm just giving a 'rough' statement. With more information (including tire size, brand and tread depth of the remaining tires, etc...) I won't be able to give a more detailed suggestion or suggestions.

Didn't realize bicycle tires were so expensive these days. Only say that because haven't seen a car tire that uses/needs a tube in decades....mostly tubeless these days. ;)

Nor do you need to rotate them.

Could have sworn that every bicycle tire I see always seems to rotate; even when braking :p Both front and rear.:whiste:

Most tires for auto's do not have tubes. You may be able to get a tube to avoid replacing a tire, IF the sidewall is not damaged.

Damaged sidewall == lack of structural integrity

Not knowing the type of vehicle it is hard to say in term of tire cost.
You can get used tires from $20 and up.

Also, all the add-ons to the base tire price can be negotiated somehow other than mandated state fees.

Why do you need to rotate them? Also, how badly worn are the other tires? If most of them are near EOL, it may just be worth it to replace all four now.

Secondly, why can't you rotate them yourself? All you need is a few jackstands and about 20 minutes of time..

Eh, don't the autoshops have like this professional tire alignment computerized thing-ey?

well, just did hte penny test and part of lincoln's head is covered by the tire. So they still have life to them yet.

I guess I just need a new tire.

re: inner tubes, yeah, as I said, I haven't had to fix car tires for a while :)

One more thing...

Eh, I'm thinking right now that I might just buy the tire somewhere using another car, and then install at home.

It's probably pretty involved work putting a tire on a rim, right?

Or should I take the flat tire with me and have them install?

Make sure to post a video of you doing that. :p

I mean, I'm going to load the flat tire + rim into my other car, take it to the place to get changed, go home and install. I'm just not comfortable driving around on the spare.

That's exactly the job of a spare, sub 50MPH driving to get you to tire replacement center. Unless you have several thousands of miles on the spare or it's snowing/icy out, then your not using the spare the one time you could use it for the job it was intended.

One can easily install (place) a tire on the axle.

To put a tire on a rim and inflate it is not easy and MAY require professional equipment.
Tires do not slip on a rim.
Once on the rim; then you need to inflate it.
The tire should be balanced.
Then mount the tire on the vehicle.

Mounting, balancing, installing to me is well worth the $10-$15 that a shop will charge.

If the spare is a donut - then the advice below holds.

If a full size - then the only limitation would be to get another working tire incase it is needed; you have no spare at this point when another goes out

/disclaimer
currently in this predicament - sidewall blew out, now running on full size spare. Waiting for vendor to ship a replacement to me under warranty.
