Flat Tire...suspension damaged?

So, I took a sharp turn too off the highway on the way to work with a new route in the morning on an 08 mazda3(leased). My driver side wheel hit nicked hte really low curb and it popped. I had to get a tow that told me not to take it to the dealer. I had my doubts about what he was saying at first, but I ended up believing him. I ended up having to call insurance because the wheel and suspension are damaged. It did seem like the axle was bent slightly, so I felt like they were being honest. However, I still feel like maybe I should've taken it to the dealer and explained the wheel should have never popped so easily in the first place. I've never even had an accident before , so I really don't know. So...did I make a mistake here??

Thanks ahead of time.

Well, the curb was really low, no more than 2 inches above the ground with no fence. I recall nicking it, but I'm biased. Still I'm thinking even if i drove over it, it shouldn't have been that bad.

If you run into a curb at full driving speed, you can expect damage to your car. Think of it this way: You crashed your car into a small wall.

yeah my axle broke when i got clipped by a van and spun out into the weeds and jumped over the curb.

So I did the right thing by taking it to a repair shop right? I just keep thinking about it, sorry if I'm repeating myself.

Most likely scenario is that if it was a front wheel you at least bent a tie rod end. That's usually the weak point. The axle is also possible to damage, so that's a valid thing to check. I think you did the right thing.
