I need to buy a bunch of bedding stuff, is there any benefit to having a flat sheet? I guess I've only had fitted sheets my whole life and I accidentally bought a flat one. Google and wiki have nothing on this.

You sleep under the flat sheet.

I like to do so when it's not too cold out.

It helps to have nice, soft sheets

i might be confused, but there were some articles saying how one should fold flat sheets a certain way under a mattress and stuff. This is confusing.

Fitted sheets are to fit around the mattress. When you buy a full set of sheets, you get a fitted and a flat sheet to use.

trained professionals can make a better bed using just flat sheets, but it's no job for amateurs.
