Flat screen monitors

Not sure if this should go in this forum or not but..
I'm looking to purchase a good 17" Flat screen in the $500-$1000 range. KDS, maybe? Which model? I'm looking to replace my 19" CRT and from what I understand a 17" flattie should have about the same viewing area. 19" Flat screen may be too much $$ :/

$500-$1000 for a 17" flat screen monitor? I hope you are talking about an LCD monitor and not a normal flat screen monitor, because that is way too much to pay for a normal 17" flat screen monitor. You should try checking out the Hot Deals forum here at the anandtech forums. I'm pretty sure not too long ago I saw like 2-3 deals for 19" flat screen monitors(w/FD Trinitron tubes) for under $300.

"I'm looking to replace my 19" CRT and from what I understand a 17" flattie should have about the same viewing area."

Well, that is definately not true. The viewable area on a 17" flat screen monitor should be about the same as the viewable area on a 17" non-flat screen monitor.(otherwise why would they call it a 17" monitor). 17" monitors have about a 15.x" viewable area. 19" monitors(flat and non-flat) usually have a viewable area of 17.8"-18.0". I think the viewable on my IBM P96(flat screen 19" FD Trinitron)monitor is 17.9".

Samsung 755DF. I have a 753DF and love it. Flat screen 17", 16" viewable and about $150 give or take some.
