Flat screen distortion at BestBuy B&M

Went to BestBuy this weekend and checked out 3 monitors.

KDS av-195tf
Viewsonic PF790
Viewsonic A90

Looked at the picture of the PF790(Flat-screen) and noticed the image was very wavy. Like when an image has a straight edge, the edge wasn't straight. It had ripples(like water ripples) in it. Went to the KDS(Flat-screen), same thing, but not as noticable. Then went to the A90(slightly curved screen) and noticed no waves at all.

I then turned off all monitors around the PF790 and KDS to make sure the waves weren't some sort of EM distortion, but they were as notiable as before. I have a Dell Trintron flat-screen at work and it does not have this distortion.

Is the distortion due to the signal being split up btwn 10 monitors, the fact that they are floor models, unseen EM interference, or are those just some crappy monitors? I want a 19" Flat-screen, but want to stay around $300-$400. Any comments?

BTW, I also noticed the KDS was a bit darker than the rest. Has anyone else seen that?

Yea it's hard to get a good look at monitors like that. The KDS is darker than the other monitors, but neither of those monitors will have wavy lines on a good signal and video card. Apart maybe from the Radeon problems with some trinitron tubes. I also went to best buy and all the monitors looked like crap, so I wouldnt really base my decision on what I saw there or any other b&m where they split the signal so many times.

yes, do NOT base your discision on what you see at the store. That signal is split from something like an rage pro. If you can afford the time and effort, buy what you think you like, and try it out at home. If you don't like it after a week or so, take it back for another.

Yes, it can be a pain, but that's what my dad did for our first "computer" so to speaker, and I eventually did that when I was looking for a 17" monitor. That's why i'm reluctant to buy online because of my own past history w/ monitors... and the fact i don't have money to try :)

g/l w/ your monitor search

the signal splitters they use are really bad usually. A rage pro is a pretty good 2d card actually, but the signal splitter is bad, its not a kvm switch or anything decent
