Great forum for hardware.

I'm hoping you can help me. I am looking for recommendations for a 17" FP monitor to be used for 80% windows use (internet, word, e-mail) and 20% gaming. I want to connect using my Sapphire Radeon 9600 card with a DVI-I connection.

Will I be able to connect a DVI-D supported monitor using the included DVI cable? Basically is this DVI-I to DVI-D a standard connection?

What monitors should I check out? I'm seen reviews for Viewsonic VP171B, HP F70, CTX PV722E, Planar PL171M, Sony SDM-X72/B, Dell 1703FP, which all support DVI-D.

Thanks,

Mike

DVI-I cable carries both analog and digital signal,if your monitor connection is DVI-D(digital only) then you`ll need a DVI-D cable not DVI-I cable.

Remember a DVI-D cable(DVI-D to DVI-D) will fit in a video card that has a DVI-I connection but not the other way round.

I decided to try out the NEC because I found a great deal on it yesterday. Thank you for the recommendation.

I've got a 24" Sun LCD running analog (via a DVI-D to analog cable) from my Radeon 8500 because the card doesn't support DVI-D. Is there a card on the market that can give me a true DVI-D to DVI-D connection on this monitor?
