Anyone tried it?
If so, could those who've been successful post the instructions on how to compress my MPEG1 video into MPEG4 format? (yes, MPEG1, not MPEG2.)

Because i've managed only once to get the correct compression. I managed to get a 28Mb mpeg1 (converted from a video CD) compressed into 14Mb which was pretty cool after i checked the quality in JetAudio. But i messed around with some settings later and now whatever i do, i cannot seem to compress correctly again. When i try the same compression? The resulting avi (mpeg4) file is twice the original Mpeg1 size! I tried other video files, 17Mb, result is 29Mb! Tried many differnt settings too but i got either 29Mb or 26Mb. I'm getting abit mixed up. Anyone has advice?

I have it but have yet to try it out .
Is there a default setting tab/button available ? If not then why not un-install and then re-install it and see if it gives you the default settings , if that works out ok then DONT TOUCH ANYTHING LOL J/K :)

Sounds like the audio stream isn't being compressed. Make sure you select .mp3 from the drop down audio menu.

I know, one person suggested it to me too. I tried to select mp3 compression but it wasn't available on the FlasKMpeg 4 audio codec menu. It showed up fine in other applications. So i'm trying out virtual dub at the moment.

Hmm, i tried MP3 compression for audio but it didn't work. So i went with DivX audio. Chose 64Kbps and when using the high motion option for DivX encoder, i get only 13Mb (am using Virtual Dubnow instead of FlasKMPEG) for the resulting file, 1Mb smaller than my original and only success with FlasKMPEG. So i changed to low motion. Got a size around 18Mb.

Tried it again on another 17Mb video, managed to tune it down to 12Mb. Wasn't much, only a 30% decrease in size, but i checked the quality carefully and i'm satisfied. The high motion option gives pretty lousy video though the file size is small. So i'm sticking with low motion. I also notice that the processor usage is pretty high for decoding MPEG4 files. To decode correctly without artifacts requires some real processing power.

But i'm concerned with some points. See, the videos i'm compressing are in MPEG1 format. (It's from a chinese TV series called Huan Zhu Ge Ge)
Since MPEG1's quality is much lower than MPEG2, and DivX is supposed to do fantastic compression with MPEG2, doesn't logic dictate that the resulting MPEG1 to MPEG4 file should be much lower too? Why am i getting only a 30% decrease in file size? Did i miss something?

Also, now that i've compressed my MPEG1 videos, i'm trying to figure out how to direct the player to only play a certain audio stream. (Cause my video has 2 streams of dialogue, one in chinese and another in cantonese). I'm tried Windows Media Player 7, JetAudio, BsPlayer but NONE of them allow me to choose a specific audio stream to play!! Help!

You might try to encode video and audio seperatly then mix just one audio stream back into the video file. I dont know of any player that can select different audio streams but I'm not bi-lingual.

Suggestion for controling the output size would be to adjust the bit-rate of the DivX codec. A low quality (100kb/s) compression might give you what your looking for.

You have to configure the bitrate for your video codec and set a sound compressor besides PCM.

Bitrate is set at 915KBps. How's it? I checked the original properties of the MPEG1 video, it's around 1120 KBps. What's the optimal bitrate for encoding MPEG1 video into MPEG4? Resolution at 352 by 240.

try vcdhelper.com...i started my encoding recently from vcd to svcd(mpeg4 doesn't play on dvd players) using hong kong stuff but used tmsmpeg(i think that's what it is called). just started see if you have any luck with that.
