FlashMemory HDD?

Would it be possible to make a hard disk based on a huge bank of FlashMemory? This would eliminate moving parts failures. My only question then would be can a FlashMemory hard disk have the same reliability or would there be other problems?

Do a search for Quantum Rushmore.

They're $50K for a 3.2GB model with all flash memory. There was also another version with SDRAM and a huge ass lithium ion battery to serve as back up. I did read a few data sheets for a few other ones but the names do not come to mind.

Yes they can be very reliable. Only problem is there must be software to move around where the data is written. Each time flash memory is written, it is slightly "damaged" in the process. There can be only so many write/erase cycles before it fails.

But you introduce the possibility of the failure of memory cells.

with sdram prices the way they are the sdram drive sounds kinda neat🙂 last longer and cheap hm🙂
