flashing your headlights without a reason can lead to a $70 fine

Someone my dad works with got out of a ticket for flashing his lights by telling the officer that "by flashing his headlights, he was causing other drivers to slow down, which may have prevented a serious accident from occuring"

Just a random thought 🙂

i flash my headlights for 2 reasons.

1. when i am lane splitting. i flash them so ppl know something is coming inbetween lanes.

2. when i see a car without headlights.. i sometimes flash.

Not only will you get a ticket, you'll get killed so someone can join a gang.

isnt that just a rumor?

I think they chase you and steal you kidneys or something like that. Something about waking up in a bathtub full of ice...

You know, this seems to be something that could be fought against. People when they see a cop slam on the breaks can and in many cases causes not only wrecks but multi-car serious wrecks and it is something that Police or the News do not report on.

We just had a huge 26 car pile up here in North Georgia specifically because of this reason. The cop sitting with his Radar gun in hand witnessed to whole thing but didn't say that people seeing him and slamming on their brakes may have been a reason for the horrible wreck that killed children as well.

Not many people Flash the headlights as a warning anymore especially in this area which I am sure contributed to this big wreck happening.

3. when another car is coming at me with their high beams on

4. when i am going around a blind corner i flash them to let whoever is coming in the other direction know to turn their high beams off

I'm sure speeding and tailgating had nothing to do with it

5. When driving down dark streets I turn them on to see any potential roadkill (deer, etc);

What would be considered "legitimate reasons" for flashing your highlights?

I would think that a massive and sudden slowdown would be a legitimate reason. The kind of slow down that occurs when there is a cop running radar.

"sorry officer, i saw a deer on the side of the road and wanted to alert the other motorists to the potential hazard"

it is even illegal to flash them with a reason. it can cause dangerous conditions if you blaze someone with your highbeams for anyreason. can also lead to me melting your face off with my highbeams and daylighters...

you driving towards me
you are stupid and think i have my hibeams on
you getting even more stupid and flashing you hi's at me.
me bad day and pissy mood
you burst into flames as you suck on halogen hi's and 2.3 million candlepower worth of kc daylighters
me get 70 dollar ticket for flashing hi's and 1000 dollar ticket for discarding burning trash on the roads
