Flashing the P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3

Hi all,

I simply want to flash the board to the point that I have functionality for a 3770k. My question is simple, must I flash to each individual version of bios that has come out or can I simply install the installer that comes with the files for the most recent and use the ROM in the Asus Easy Flash system?
 
You need only use the latest bios that supports the 3770k.
The P8Z68 and and most 68 style mb were released for the 2500-2700k chips.
I believe you need to have a 2500-2700k chip to flash to the the latest 3770k bios.

Once you flash a 68 style mb to the 3770k bios the mb will no longer work with 2500-2700k chips.
 
If you flash it back to the 2500-2700k chip bios the mb should work.
Many people that were going to update to a 3770k updated their bios and could not use there mb till they got the 3770k.
So to avoid that bios hassle I got 77 mb.
 
I'm very glad I read this post before I went ahead with the flash. I was thinking I could simply continue to use my I5-2500K. Now that I know that is not the case, I will simply play the waiting game and see if the "future need" for more cores comes to be. Aside from that, I did not have the motherboard CD handy and the instructions in the manual are very clear. I didn't feel safe to make the update with what I had on hand.

I'm glad I posted this before I attempted or I might have been SOL. 😱
 
As an aside, what a waste of money the "K" version has turned out to be for me. My OCD just won't allow me to OC it. I'll never buy that version again.

Just as another thought about BIOS updates.

ASUS will sell you the BIOS chip for chump change, and you can simply unplug the old one and put the new one in there.

I can't count the number of BIOS flash updates I've made without mishap, going back to the early 1990s. But in '07, I'd made the not-so-wonderful choice of a Striker Extreme 680i motherboard, and the BIOS flash somehow failed. At that time, there was a guy who would sell you any PLCC BIOS chip custom-flashed with the version you wanted at BIOSMan.com. I don't think he's in business anymore, but there are other such services and resellers who will do that for you.

Frankly, if it's less than $20 and saves you the old BIOS version on the old PLCC chip, it's worth the convenience.

I was trying to find documentation on this as I have never heard of that before. The system should still work with a 2500k/2600k.......

Can you point us to more information please?
