Flashing the firmware on a DVD rom drive

I have a Toshiba SD-M1402 DVD rom drive. I've flashed the firmware on it before with my old computer and got it to work fine regionless (is this illegal by the way? to flash the DVD rom into regionless?).

Anyway, I do have a legit copy of Power DVD and this is the same DVD rom drive, but when I'm trying to play some Japanese or French DVD's it's asking me to switch between the regions and that I only have 3 available switches left.

Now I went back into DOS and tried to flash it again, but it didn't work. I got an error message saying that there was a error in line #1203 or something like that. This is the same patch that I've applied previously and worked, so what's going on now?

Even though the firmware unlocked the drive, PowerDVD locks it after so many changes. The only resolution I know is to uninstall/reinstall the application. Does anyone know of any other solution?

I thought that this is where dvd genie comes into play!
