Flashing start bar

Hi all,
I have Win XP Pro and whenever I open a new window and quickly go to another, the start bar pops up and flashes the minimized bar. I would like to know if there is any setting or registry tweak that I can set to disable this.
Thanks

It has always happened, but I finally got tired of it. I believe it is one of microsoft's features that they think are useful.

I ried to re-create what you are saying happens, but was unable to do so. I have seen some flashing buttons in MS word in a work machine when you get to saving a "file-as", but that is due to some older crappy ATI Rage drivers. Other than maybe a driver issue, I can not help you.

EDIT: Have you allways been running the rig specs you list in your sig since you installed WinXP? Possibly look for some updated chipset or KYRO drivers.

Yes, I have always been running this rig. I think I found out when it happens. It seems to always happen when a window opens in the backround such as a pop-under. For me, it happens when I go to check my hotmail account from Trillian.

Wow, Sorry.. I again was unable to re-create what you describe. I had a few IE windows open, Opened Outlook Express, then quickly switched windows. Still no luck. I even went to a few sites that are known for pop up(or under) ads. Still no luck. If I can't recreate it then I am no help. Sorry. Post back if you get it figured out.

I have XP PRO installed and also cannot recreate the blinking in the Start button or in the Task bar.

That problem could have resulted from a program that was installed causing the blinking problem CapnCrunch described.

I've seen what your talking about many times, its a feature and I know of no way to disable it, it is simply letting yho know that the window (flashing on the task bar) needs attention.

I dont see what the "solution" would be, they programmed it to behave this way, and while it could be annoying, I dont see how it could be worth your time to try to change... or maybe its just me....

good luck, I suppose...

Try the XP Powertoy TweakUI... available at MS

Install and open the util

Expand the general area and under there select focus.

You can check the box not to steal focus and you can set the # of times that the button will flash

Ahhh, that is it. Focus. There is a setting for adjusting it somewhere. Let me poke around at work today and see if I can find it for you
