Flashing retail firmware on T-Mobile Cellspot (Asus RT-AC68U)

I got one of these for ~$29 at a thrift store. I know you can put retail firmware on it. Found a guide online that has an outdated link to the Asus firmware recovery utility. When I download the latest version of the utility, it doesn't work. It says the router is not in recovery mode, even though it is.

Does anyone know how I can get this thing to retail firmware?

There's an even better tutorial on youtube. It is easier to follow than the slickdeals guide. Search for "flash t mobile cell spot to Asus rt-ac68u". The one you want is just over 1 hour long. The guy even has all of the software downloads in a link in the comments.
