Flashing my DVD Rom?

i'm going to flash my dvd rom drive, but i have a few questions... i have a pioneer 16x 106S/2 DVD rom (what it says on Newegg) but the driver pioneer have says is only for 106S....
if i improperly flash my dvd drive what could happen, and are those drivers (106S vs 106S/2) right?

thanks for any help. 🙂

the dvd drive is OEM, btw.

edit: Clarified up some stuff.

I'd not do it unless the flash site or flash file lists your drive as meant for that file. Just curious as to why you want to flash it?

it appears that some of my CDs skip when i play them in the drive. No scratches.

BTW, the patch IS from the pioneer website, so i don't think there's a mistake. However, on my invoice from Newegg, it lists the drive as 106S, while on the site it lists it as 106S/2. The file on pioneer has it for 106S, and nothing for 106S/2. The only difference i can think of is that the OEM difference. Hm.... some help/input please.
