Flashing by BX6-2 bios...

I'm going to flash my BIOS with the latest update from Abit, and just wanted to check a few things.

I have the latest awdflash.exe and the bios update BXR_QR.BIN (from abit's site).

What I used to do was put the files in a directory on my c:\ drive (c:\bios), and would type: awdflash /cc

which would take me into the program, let me backup the old bios, write the new bios and clear the cmos.

I also used to use Win98, and to get to DOS all I had to do was press CTRL+F5 (while booting). How do I do something similar with Windows 2000?

If there was one thing where I'd recommend you follow the manufacturer's directions exactly, it would be when flashing the BIOS. Go to the board manufacturer's web site, which for Abit is a slow loading one, and find your precise board. Be sure you have identified your board correctly. Print out all their instructions for reference and be sure you know what to do if it gets botched. Then do what they tell you.

And then be afraid ..... be very afraid .....

🙂 🙂 🙂

You said BXR_QR.BIN file?! Are you sure?
If I'm not mistaken, this BIOS is for the 1.2 revision of the BX6-II m/b. Be careful!

Mine is revision 1.1 and I used to use the QJ BIOS ... I just upgraded to the SH one.

Read the web pages from http://www.abit.com.tw very carefully and follow the instructions.

Good luck!

If you are running Win2K solo, you are gonna hafto learn command.exe script, or wait a few weeks for abit to come out with its own liveupdate version.
Or you can install DOS 6.22-7.0 as a second O/S (BWAHAHAHAH!!!)

Just use your Win98 boot disk to get to dos and then flash. If you have NTFS, make sure you put your new bios and .exe onto the floppy so you won't need to access your hd. good luck
one more thing. with the newer bios and instructions, it doesn't say to reset the bios after flashing. anybody confirm? or did i miss a line and f*ck up my bios?
