" BIOS Update

If you get a new Floppy Diskette or CD_ROM from your local dealer
which contains a new version of the BIOS binary file or you obtain
the new BIOS binary file directly from our Web Site (www.leadtek.com.tw)
. Please follow the steps describes below to update the BIOS.

Step 1 Reboot into DOS or "Command Prompt Only" of Windows95/98
Step 2 Insert the accompany CD into CD-ROM (or floppy disk to Drive A)
Step 3 Copy "AWDFLASH.EXE" to a new directory from X:\FLASH
sub-directory. (X: means CD-ROM drive letter)
Step 4 Copy the new BIOS binary file to the above said new directory
Step 5 Change to the new directory and type the following command:
AWDFLASH [Filename] ([Filename] means the file name of BIOS
binary file)

Example: AWDflash.exe xxxxxxxx.bin /CC
xxxxxxxx.bin is the BIOS cose

A message will be displayed on your screen and just follows the instruction
to finish the BIOS updating.

You can also use "AWDFLASH /?" command to get help messages.

I thought you couldnt flash the bios from your hard drive due to the fact the IDE controller cant be in use or something.

I probably heard wrong, would be interesting to know the definate answer though :)

I thought it was a load of cack

Well whether or not I know the reason (Which I obviously dont), I still dont think its possible.

I mean after all, the flooooooooppy disk wouldnt be here (Or any other legacy devices) if they wernt needed for something.

I remember a lengthy thread about the floppy drive being required for "Some tasks" like flashing your bios.

There is nothing that you have to have a floppy drive for unless you want to copy a file to a floppy. Lots of machines are sold without a fd now. You can take the files required for a Win98 universal boot floppy and make a bootable cd. You can also include the new rom file and flash utility. When the computer boots from this cd, it will create a ram drive. Copy the flash utility and rom to the ram drive and execute from the ram drive.
