Flashing Bios question....

hey all,

I need to flash my bios for my mobo epox 8k7a, i read the intstructions on the epox web site and i have a question. the epox web site states "Copy these extracted files to a bootable DOS floppy disk. Note: the DOS floppy disk should contain NO device drivers or other programs that load during the boot other than the operating system itself."

does this mean a win 98 boot disk wont work since it has cd rom drivers?

can i use it and just choose to boot w/o cd rom support?

if not, can i make a bootable floppy that will work in winme?

if so how?

if not, how can i make a bootable floppy?

thanx all.

Open up My Computer
Right click on the floppy drive(it needs to have a floppy in it)
Select format from the menu
In the format dialog box check COPY SYSTEM FILES
Click on Start

I ussually do a full format with copy system files, to make sure the floppy has no bad sectors.

i've flashed my epox bios twice, and i haven't made the floppy bootable either of the two times. i don't know if i'm supposed to do it that way, but it worked fine for me. i just formatted the floppy, then extracted the files to the floppy. then rebooted, pressed alt+f2 to enter the awflash utility, and the comp does the rest. remember to clear your cmos after you flash your bios.

I keep forgetting about the ALT+F2 option, never had on other motherboards. To clear the CMOS you use JP1 down by the battery.
