Flashing BIOS far increases performance?

A little while ago I posted a problem about having rather disappointing performance after buying a 6800nu, posting 3dmark03 scores of around ~5900, (My system is in my sig) and having people say that a configuration equivalent to mine should be getting around 8000 3dmarks. Well, after a while a friend recommended that I flash my BIOS, and so i did, and then ran 3dmark03 and got a score of 8284.. which is simply amazing considering the 2384 improvement and how i just flashed my bios.. However, after going into windows after the flash I got "nforce2 dual channel" messages and wondering, would running in dual-channel mode herald that large a performance leap, or has flashing my bios caused something else to change?

Could be that bios was defaulted after a flash. There may have been a setting in your previous bios that you overlooked that could've hindered performance. (AGP rate?)

No, dual channel on Nforce2 yields a 0-2% performance increase in everything, and 0-5% on synthetic memory tests. I tried it once when I was running a 3200+ with a gig of memory, and it made no difference in terms of bandwidth 🙁.

The P4, on the other hand, gets virtually double the bandwidth from dual channel... it's all in the design. Dual Channel Athlon64's also make great usage of the extra bandwidth.
