Is it necessary to unplug all pc's and WAN connector from router, and flash it from just one pc? Or is it alright to just keep it all plugged in while flashing it?

I don't think it matters. What's important is to flash it over wired connection w/ steady power (if you have a laptop, make sure to plug in the power chord).

I've flashed numerous routers numerous times with everything hooked up. It'll be fine.

What router are you flashing? How often to they have firmware updates out for routers?

I like Netgear products, so they've all been Netgears. Ours at home I've flashed three times since being purchased. The one at the wife's office has also been three.

Everyone I know with broadband I suggest get a router and many have. I usually end up setting them up for them and flash them if there is new firmware. Lot's of stock on retailers shelves has been there for a while. It's common to buy v1 routers when v2 is out. There is most always a firmware upgrade for them available to try to bring them up to v2.

Bring up any router at the Netgear site and click on the Support link. You'll find many firmware revisions listed. When people are having router problems the first thing I suggest is to see if there is a newer firmware.

Manufacturers come out with new firmware on their timetable. Most often to address bugs or to offer enhancements. Kinda like BIOS revisions on mobo's.
