That would be very tricky indeed LOL

Dear fellow forum n00b,
a pc won't power on without a cpu in it.
you sound like you're really green. (that's cool though, you gotta start somewhere) I personally have only been a pc freak for about 2 years. But, hangin' around here you'll learn a lot. Hope to see ya around.

yo shuggy: I was just at the asus site and I could only find one version of the bios (other than the original) and it doesn't say anything about adding cpu compatability. Are you sure you need to flash to run an fx53?

you still have to have it installed. like I said before, the pc won't power up w/o a cpu. Usually there is a kind of safe mode you can boot into by doing certain things. (like on the a8v, you put one ram stick in slot three) It will let you boot in that "safe mode" (it's not really any different than a regular boot), flash it, then you can go about your business. Do you have windows installed on the hdd or is it a clean one? If it's clean, do you have another pc you can use to download the bios?

Iv not got the stuff yet. im jus looking about to see the best prices and seeing if i can find a decent ram/mobo combination in the uk.

oh ... well, it's kind of hard to give for sure answers for theoretical questions, but judging by the fact that I haven't found much on this particular subject (neither in this forum, nor elsewhere) it must not be to much of a problem.

Are parts harder to find in the uk?

Well its not hard to find , ust more expensive here. There are very few mobos forthe fx 940 anyways so the oneihave found i have ordered. Buti jus wanted to make sure everything isok before i actually bought the stuff but thanks anyways.
